Technology Improvements

Technology Improvements
Our generation was put into a time where kids can still be kids, and still be able to play outside and be active. This new generation was setup to be put into a world where technology has been pretty much taking over every kind of entertainment. A wise man once said, “I'm sorry, it's true. Having children really changes your view on these things. We're born, we live for a brief instant, and we die. It's been happening for a long time. Technology is not changing it much - if at all.” (Steve Jobs) I totally disagree with this quote, because technology is really affecting every kind of generation out there. From kids in there youth, teenagers in there teen years, and adults in there own little “big boys and girls world”. I feel as if this is affecting mainly little kids, because this is opening new doors to their minds and for more laziness to ooze in.
This is the way I see it, there are some changes that are meant to make our lives better, but sometimes in the end it doesn’t. An example can be video games. As game play improves and so do the graphics, more people begin to get intrigued by it. Now that more teens and kids are playing video games constantly, I’ve been noticing that it can start affecting their health.  It’s been said that our generation is becoming more “obese” due to the improvements in technology. Not only are more and more people starting to emphasize that statement, but I’m also starting to believe it.
From my observations at home, I’ve noticed that my niece (she lives with me now) is constantly playing on the wii or on her itouch. At that age (8 years old) I would’ve been outside playing street soccer with my friends or throwing a baseball with my brother. Another thing I’ve noticed is out in public. Whenever I go to Target or Best Buy or wherever I’ve noticed that kids are becoming more “chunky-er”. It’s sad seeing a young child be that heavy due to improvements in technology which is supposed to make our lives “easier”.  My last idea about this occurred to me when I was watching the Disney Channel. Recently, they’ve been broadcasting a commercial in which some girl kept suggesting to kids to “GO OUT AND PLAY!” In that commercial she says that about five to ten times which, really says a lot about who they’re targeting and why.
Not only is it affecting children, but it’s also affecting teens and adults sociably. A long time ago people actually sent letters to each other… it’s rare finding someone who actually writes letters or even a kid who knows how. It’s all about e-mailing and texting no-a-days. The social network “Facebook” has really affected us because (well from what I’ve seen) people spend more time online talking to their “friends” rather than socializing and interacting with that person physically.
Technology has helped us in numerous ways, but it’s up to us to learn how to use it and not to abuse it. We have to set boundaries for ourselves and not let it get over our heads. I just hope that one day people can start to improve technology not only for entertainment, but also in a way that can help us physically.

  1. David i agree with you because technology is really messing with our generation and with future generations due to the fact that people dont hang out at the park but instead they would rather play video games.i can agree with you because i do it too.then you give the example of your niece and the children by best buy.Overall i liked this piece because you connect with the things that are going on nowadays :) Great Job David.

  2. I agree with you. Sure technology has helped us in some ways but in many more ways it has damages society. It has made people more anti-social and even fat. In today's society it isn't uncommon for a child to have his or her own iPod or even an iPhone. The more recent generation is growing up in a world where technology is the most important thing in the. They are not being exposed to more traditional means of communicating or entertainment which i find extremely upsetting.
